This is one of the more unique stories on how I got into a band.
A few years ago, I was travelling from Ireland to Finland, a journey I undertake a few times a year. I was catching a connecting flight from Manchester to Helsinki. I arrived at my gate and saw that a rock band was boarding the same plane. Trust me, bands are always easy to spot, even if you don’t know who they are!
I don’t like approaching people I don’t know, and I thought it would have been a bit nosey, so I didn’t gather up the courage to go and talk to them. When I boarded the plane, I found myself sitting behind one of the guys in the band. I was gutted - I would rather have sat next to him because then I would have had an excuse to strike up a conversation.
Instead, I admit that I eavesdropped on his conversation with the passenger next to him, who was also curious. It was eavesdropping that I found out the band was called Falling Red and that they were playing a show in Helsinki that same evening.
I already had onward travel plans and had to catch a train straight after my flight, but once on the train, I immediately looked up Falling Red on YouTube and liked what I heard. I have been a fan ever since. I am yet to see these boys live, but they are on my to-do list, and it’s only a matter of time before it happens.
This is my favourite Falling Red track - such a huge chorus!
