A Nordic delicacy here. In Finland we would call this voileipäkakku, in Swedish smörgåstårta. The literal English translation would be ‘sandwich cake’ although it’s not really used. It’s a staple of the smörgåsbord.

On another note, did you know that the Finnish term for this recipe translates as ‘butter-bread-cake’ and the Swedish as ‘butter-goose-tart’? Yes, Finns call sandwiches buttered bread and Swedes buttered geese although the Swedish word’s origin is somewhat debatable. Aren’t languages fascinating?
