Music Monday 10th February 2020

I just saw these boys again over the weekend, in their new line-up of Sick Joy.

What really attracted me to this band in any formation was Mykl Barton’s voice. Sometimes, when I see Sick Joy live, I think I just stand there like an idiot, watching him and wondering how such a beautiful sound can come from a human being.

This song is perhaps my favourite example of Mykl’s singing.

I like music at its best when it’s live, raw and not overly produced. That’s why I enjoy live music so much; it’s happening right here, right now, and if the musicians can’t handle their instruments, then, well, we’re all going to notice it. And the band is screwed.

That’s one thing that technology can never do. It can never recreate what a human voice can do - because it has no emotions.
