I recently escaped to Finland. Yes, in the middle of the pandemic. I was undecided on it for a long time, but at the end of the day, that is where my family is, and it can’t be wrong to see your loved ones.
While I was in my hometown, I couldn’t get this song out of my head.
I remember an interview from around the time the album this track is taken from came out, where Rozey, the band’s lead vocalist and guitarist, mentioned hating it on first listen when another band member brought it in to their rehearsals. He said there was no way this song was ever going to be on a Falling Red album. Afterwards, he couldn’t get the song out of his head, and he eventually changed his mind. If I remember correctly, this was the first single of their excellent Lost Souls album, one of my favourite albums in recent years.
The lyrics are very relatable if you love your hometown, and the song has grown on me over the years. It 100% belongs on the album.
Also, for the record, Carlisle, where this band hails from, is a beautiful part of the world! I’ve been there before, and I loved it. I’ve been through it a few times since, and I’m always tempted to jump off the train and explore some more…
